DAPP Task 2: Skills development In my skills development wheel, I have picked out skills which I believe are the most important to have as a coach and I rated myself fairly on all skills at the start of this year and from then I have developed and recognized my work more, so I was able to reflect and rate myself again based on new skills. I chose communication as an important skill " being an effective communicator is a distinguished characteristic of expert coaches." (Bloom, 1996) as it is something will do on a day-to-day basis so itis easy to recognize. On first look at communication, I rated myself as a 7/10 as I thought I am okay at it could be better whereas my mentor scored me at an 8/9 but now after teaching a few sessions and completing some training sessions and planning and reviewing I have scored myself as a 9/10 as I know there is a few things I can work on but I belief my communication is good and will progress with experience. other skills I have ...
I liked how you managed to speak about all of the factors that occurred at the rugby fest. It would have been nice for you to follow one of the reflective cycles and specifically mention one of them and pick one specific moment and go through the referenced reflective model such as Gibbs' reflective cycle or Rolf's what, so what, now what that we covered in class. Although within your video I felt as though you stated many things that occurred and showcased how as you went along you were able to change, adapt and provide help to those who were struggling. Within that you were able to establish some things that didn't go as well and ways to rectify these for the future such as trying to get the kids attention a bit more. With the kids being 'pumped' on arrival to your session maybe the use of a whistle and getting kids to sit down and pay attention may help next time.
