So far this year I have really enjoyed my new uni course and all the new people and friends I have met so far. I'm really enjoying all my units which include…
· Coach education workshop
· Coaching and leadership
· Developing academic professional practice
· Science of PA and coaching
I have learned different features like developing my coaching ability and when to use a stern voice or when I need to have a bit more control of my session, I think this is help me to be a bit more confident in myself and realize now it is all part of learning. I was shy at the start of getting to know everybody and feeling a bit weird when having to coach of us in my class but when using it ask practice before teaching a different class or before we went to a rugby game it was useful and extremely beneficial for myself.
In lessons such as coaching and leadership we have learned skills which will help us when performing but they also help us in real life such as time management "Good time management also reduces stress and allows you to achieve your goals faster and easier." (Sage-advice, 2020), respect, encouragement, and problem solving it's something we need to have as an individual as well as when being a coach as these skills well help us be the best, we are able to be.
I honestly thought this course would be a lot of sit down and be spoken to and taught bought it actually has quite a lot of conversation and discussions which I really enjoy as everyone in our class have the different opinions like for example when talking about the issues in sports we all have a different mean one and we can all argue on every factor which makes it interesting as you get to understand different thoughts on what people are making and for me it's a good way to get information which I didn't already know.
So far, I am really enjoying this course, I enjoy how it has different ways of teaching for example some days we are on Astro turf doing physical other days we all sat in classroom listening and writing, which I find beneficial I like how we do every class in a different way as we all have different ways of learning for example I like to be shown and told exactly how to do something so when we get an example how to do something such as playing a game or starting a sentence I understand that more so how we do games in the morning I understand them and sometimes I can take them away and teach that myself.
I think moving forward from this year I will take all the learning away with me and all the reflections I have received on my coaching practical's, such as when to give out the equipment, making sure I have explained any drills correctly, so everybody understands and little bits and bobs to make me a better coach.
At the start of my course, I did a skills development wheel talking about different ability’s and how I rate myself and how my teacher rated me. Some of the skills I thought I was better than I rated myself such as demonstrations as I rated myself as a 6 and my teacher rated me a 5 but looking back, I realize I don’t do them as much as I should, but I have recognized that, and I believe I have started to do them more based on knowing I’m not doing them as much as I should. There are also parts in the skills which has stayed the same such as I rated myself a 9 for organization as well did my teacher and I think it has stayed the same as I am able to improve that score in progress.
I believe that I have done well in my development as I have progressed in some skills, but some stayed the same which I think is okay as I have a longer period to develop and evaluate the skills I am struggling on. The development wheel helps me to understand what I need to focus on through the next few years to become the best in all the skills therefore I will develop myself and become the best of myself.
I like how you have tied off this section by referring back to the skills wheel task dictating that this will help you moving forward. More detail could have been included with specific skills you needed to improve on.
ReplyDeleteWith your reflection you could have included more research maybe talk me though what reflective model you have used referring back to Gibbs/Rolfe et al etc to further your reflections.
With your referencing if you cant find a name/author my advice is to wither use the name of the website it was posted or find another article/journal that says a similar or different thing. As at the moment the reference you have used carries no weight due to the lack of a name being present.
